HELENA — The top 10 political donors in Montana gave a combined $1,559,555 between January 1, 2011 and June 30, 2014, according to data compiled and analyzed by the Investigative News Network and Montana Center for Investigative Reporting.

The majority of Montana’s “power players” donated their money to Republican candidates or causes but the donor who contributed the most money, Linda Pritzker, gave to Democratic candidates or causes.

Since campaign contribution limits to individual candidates are capped in Montana, as in other states, the largest sums are going straight to political parties, political action committees, fundraising committees and Super PACs, according to data from the National Institute on Money in State Politics and the Center for Responsive Politics.

The 10 power players combined contributions equal about 9.7 percent of the more than $16 million given by all Montanans during this time period.
